Restoration of Sensation, Reduced Pain, and Improved Balance in Subjects With Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study with monochromatic near-infrared treatment

Study Summary

All 27 patients who qualified for this study were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, foot pain/discomforting foot sensations and impaired balance.

Patients received either 6 or 12 Anodyne treatments rendered in a diabetes center.

 

Results

Patients who received Anodyne, in the manner described in the study, obtained significant pain relief after 2 weeks and 4 weeks of treatment but not sham treatment, including:

  • Relief from discomforting foot sensations improved more in response to active treatment than to sham treatment.

Study Summary

All of the 272 patients who qualified for this study experienced foot pain and/or discomforting foot sensations and impaired balance. 128 of the patients were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Patients received an average of 18 treatment sessions that included Anodyne and manual physical therapy. The study was conducted in 8 separate physical therapy clinics.

 

Results

More than 90% of patients who received Anodyne treatments, as described in the study, obtained significant foot pain relief, including:

  • Initial discomforting foot sensations were relieved by 77%
  • Patients said they were in extreme pain before Anodyne treatment but in only moderate pain afterwards
  • Foot pain relief was the same regardless of whether the patients had diabetes or not

Study Summary

The 2,239 patients who qualified for this study all experienced foot pain. These patients obtained foot pain relief after receiving an average of 16 treatments that included Anodyne and physical therapy. 60% of patients suffered from diabetes and the remainder was diagnosed with other conditions that may have been associated with their symptoms.

 

Results 

98% of patients who received Anodyne, in the manner described in the study, experienced significant foot pain relief, including:

  • Pain/discomforting foot sensations decreased by 67%
  • Patients said they were in extreme pain before Anodyne treatment but in only mild pain afterwards
  • Foot pain relief was the same regardless of whether the patients had diabetes or not

Infrared Photo Energy May Reduce Neuropathic Pain

Near infrared light therapy, together with physical therapy, may be able to reduce pain in neuropathy patients and possibly reduce medication dosage levels of those undergoing drug therapy.

The 493 patients who qualified for this study experienced extreme foot pain prior to treatment. All of the patients, half of whom were diagnoses with type 2 Diabetes, received an average of 15 treatments that included Anodyne and manual physical therapy.

  • A 64% reduction in level of their painful symptoms

Study Summary

All of the 35 patients who qualified for this study were diagnosed with diabetes, foot pain/discomforting foot sensations and impaired balance.  Half of patients received 12 treatments that included Anodyne, manual physical therapy and home exercise. The remainder received the same 12 treatments but without Anodyne.

 

Results 

Anodyne treated patients obtained better results than those who just received physical therapy and home exercises alone, including:

  • 33% more pain relief
  • 6 times the reduction in discomforting foot sensations
  • 2.5 times the improvement in balance
